Renault Rolls Out 50,000th Kiger From Chennai Plant

Renault has announced that its subcompact SUV, the Kiger has crossed the 50,000-unit production milestone. The carmaker had commenced series production of the Kiger in February last year with the milestone unit rolling out of the plant about 16 months later. To mark the milestone Renault has also rolled out a new exterior colour option – Stealth Black – for its subcompact SUV. The option is available on the fully-loaded RxZ and RxT(O) variants.

Speaking about the Kiger’s performance in India, Venkatram Mamillapalle, CEO and Managing Director, Renault India said, “It has proved its mettle in the most competitive compact SUV segment in India and the 50,000th production milestone, despite the pandemic and ongoing semiconductor crisis, is yet another testament to the success of Renault Kiger in this challenging segment. This Sporty, Smart & Stunning SUV is an important contributor to our progress in India and has been instrumental in placing India among Renault’s top five global markets.”

“We are confident that Renault KIGER will continue to garner tremendous customer response and further bolster the brand’s growth in India and overseas,” he added.

Launched in India in February 2021, the Kiger is based on Renault-Nissan’s CMF-A platform and is the cousin to the Nissan Magnite with Renault going for a completely unique design for its SUV to set it apart from Nissan’s. The Kiger is offered with a pair of 1.0-litre three-cylinder engines – naturally aspirated and turbocharged – with both offered with manual and automatic gearbox options. The 1.0-litre naturally aspirated (NA) unit is available with a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox option with the turbo-petrol meanwhile getting the option of either a manual or CVT gearbox.
