PM Unveils Alluri Sitarama Raju’s Statue: 5 Facts About Him


The 30-feet bronze statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju was unveiled by PM Modi today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled a statue of legendary freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju in Andhra Pradesh. The Prime Minister is in the state to attend his 125th birth anniversary celebrations.

Here are five facts about Allaru Sitarama Raju:

  1. Born on July 4, 1897, Alluri Sitarama Raju is remembered for his fight against the British to safeguard the interests of the tribal communities in the Eastern Ghats region.

  2. Alluri Sitarama Raju led the Rampa rebellion, which was launched in 1922. He is referred to as “Manyam Veerudu” (Hero of the Jungles) by the local people.

  3. Alluri Sitarama Arjun had an extensive knowledge of astrology and medicine, according to local media reports. In a paper, Dr Murali Atury, a professor of History at the University of Hyderabad, said that Raju became a ‘sanyasi’ (hermit) at the age of 18.

  4. Pandrangi, in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district, is the birthplace of Alluri Sitarama Raju.

  5. The central government has also approved the construction of Alluri Dhyana Mandir at Mogallu with a statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju in meditation pose, depicting the life story of the freedom fighter through mural paintings and an AI-enabled interactive system.
