Indian racing ace and Formula 2 driver Jehan Daruvala recently announced that he will be testing a Formula 1 car with McLaren, and now 4 days later, he has tweeted pictures of him driving a McLaren Formula 1 car. Daruvala got behind the wheel of McLaren’s 2021 F1 challenger, the MCL35M – Which also won the Italian GP in 2021 and helped McLaren finished third in the 2021 constructors championship – on the famous Silverstone Circuit in Great Britain. Daruvala clocked 130 laps of the circuit over the span of 2 days, which is over twice the distance of the British Grand Prix. This also means that the Indian driver is now eligible for a Formula 1 superlicense, which is required to compete in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Speaking on his incredible achievement, Jehan Daruvala said, “I really enjoyed my first time driving a Formula One car. I felt immediately at home and while it was physically more demanding than anything I have driven in the past, I didn’t have any issues with my fitness”. “Overall, I’m very pleased with how the two days went, how I coped and the mileage we were able complete. I felt I was able to push closer to the limit with every lap and I can’t wait to drive one of these cars again”, he added.

Jehan Daruvala currently sits P3 in the Formula 2 Championship.

Jehan Daruvala is currently the only driver in the FIA Formula 2 championship, which is the direct feeder series of Formula 1. He sits third in the championship with 73 points, and has racked up multiple podiums this season. He is currently a part of the Red Bull Junior team, who were also supportive of the test, and though his main focus lies on winning the 2022 Formula 2 championship, he surely will have one eye on getting a Formula 1 seat for 2023.
